Conductor and musicians

Michael Engelbrecht

Conductor

Conductor of Philharmonie Gelre is Michael Engelbrecht. He is also regularly invited to appear as a guest conductor. It was in this capacity that he conducted for example the Eindhoven Symphony Orchestra, the professional Neos Brass ensemble during the annual Canal Festival (Grachtenfestival) in Amsterdam and the Dutch National Student Orchestra in Croatia, where the programme included the première of Waarom niet? (Why not?) by Dutch composer Mayke Nas, the Glazunov violin concerto with soloist Esther Yoo, and Symphony No. 1 by Gustav Mahler.

Our musicians

The musicians of Philharmonie Gelre are ambitious amateurs, who love playing and performing music. The orchestra consists of 70 directed by a professional conductor. Philharmonie Gelre is a symphonic wind band with complete instrumentation: the woodwinds section with clarinets, flutes, saxophones and oboes has been extended with piccolo, English horn, bassoons, alto- and bass clarinet. The brass section consists of trumpets/cornets, French horns, trombones, euphoniums and tubas. The percussion section and string bass complete the orchestra.
